HONOR YOUR ROLE TO YOURSELF

Are you feeling overwhelmed by life and all the roles you have to play? Oh my if you are like most people, you have to play the role of a mother, father, sibling, caretaker, guardian, aunt, Step-parent, colleague, Manager, grandchild, and many many other roles. These obligations can sometimes make you feel like you are going to drown, and then you forget the most important person, your role to yourself.

Your first role is to yourself. Take a moment to realize and know that you are doing your best with the tools that you have on hand right now. Your best might not be solving all your problems and meeting the outcomes you desire, but it is your best effort and there is room for improvement, always. As you watch my video, I want you to imagine you are looking in the mirror, or if you have one available, go and look into it. Who do you see looking back? You. You are your first responsibility. Your duty and role to be at your best, expect your best, and give yourself the best chance comes first. You can not effectively and consistently be so much for other people, forgetting to replenish the giver of time, emotions, finances, and much more, if you do not take time out to take care of you.

Know when you need to step back, whether mentally, emotionally, spiritually or other, in order to recharge, regroup, feed your spirit, your heart and mind. Take that time unapologetically but not recklessly, do it for your sanity, you deserve it, you have earned it if you truly have been trying your best. Remember that we are all on a journey towards the end, do not rush yourself into a mental breakdown just because you got too busy, felt too important in the lives of those you love and take care of, that you didn’t pause to honor your role to yourself. If you breakdown, the people you are doing all this for, will end up lacking what you are killing yourself trying to provide. So, if you want to still be there, doing these things, honor yourself, recharge, be your number one champion.

Let me read and hear from you, practice this and tell me what your experience was. Have you learned to take time out for yourself, is it hard, and what are your obstacles?

YOU ARE YOUR THOUGHTS

YOU ARE YOUR THOUGHTS

Our thoughts are made up of a lot of things, some of which are intrinsically generated by our desires and deliberate action of thinking in a certain direction. However, these are not the only factors that make up the noise and activity in our head, our mind, and our heart. A huge percentage of our thoughts comes from input we get externally, all our portals and windows into our soul, our mind: the things we see, hear, feel, smell, taste, experience, encounter, and our instinct. We consume an enormous amount of information, data that is random and some, not so random. In essence, the totality of what we think is a salad bowl of more that what we desire to think about, is based largely on input. From that point of view, the true us, is really not reflected in the sampling of our mind. Yet, we are, our thoughts, and I will explain further.

You see, while we may not be the author of every thought in our mind, we have the authority to control how much external data we let in our heads, and how much of that information we allow to dwell and take residence in our head. We have the capacity to program our brains to work for us, to predispose us to a mindset of positive thinking, thus positive outcomes as much as possible, or we can allow the brain to be at the mercy of every passing data and for that data to dwell and morph into whatever interpretation or effect it wants. What we allow to take root in our mind becomes our belief system or has the power to influence what we put out through the same portals: what we say, how we act and react, and the energy we put out. What comes in, goes out.

My short video is intended to be a helpful tool in dealing with one of the ways we can set ourselves up for control of the data that comes in our head and how to react to it. START YOUR DAY RIGHT. A simple step, such as paying attention to your thoughts in the first 20-30 minutes of your day, is powerful in taking ownership of what disposition you want your brain to be in. You can decide for yourself, that although you cannot control the words and actions of others, you will control how your mind receives those experiences, and you will set the tone you want for your day. Enjoy the video, ask me questions and join to further the discussion. Think about these tips as you learn to start your day right:

– Wake up expectant every morning, determined to own your day

– Wake up grateful, there’s always something to be thankful for, like the breath of life

– Dedicate a few minutes of your 24 hours to map out what you desire for your life that day

– You’re your thoughts, for what you think, you speak & create. De-clutter your thoughts, you’re worth more than junk

Change How You Think

Enrich your mind by switching your perspective.

It starts with a deliberate intention to want a

different kind of result. Out with old and

unproductive habits, a desire for something

more, then action. First, your thinking,

change how you think, it begins there

PEARL #83: WHEN THEIR MIND’S MADE UP, IT’S MADE UP

At some point you have to come to a realization that

you have done all you can and should to make things better.

This could be with a coworker, partner, friend, place,

peer group, or family. Any further efforts to be understood, no

matter that your intentions and heart are in the right place,

WON’T WORK. It’s up to their effort now, let it

go. Their failure to respond to your energy, and light, is not a

reflection of your failure. It’s their journey now, enjoy yours.

BE STILL AND DREAM

KNOW WHERE YOU ARE IN LIFE

As the year comes to an end, and people wonder where the year went to,

don’t get caught up in the mindless musings, wondering where the time went.

You know exactly where the time went, you know exactly what you were doing,

what you were saying, what you were thinking. You know. We all know.

The year might not have been the most productive for some,

for others, this was the most productive year of their life.

For some people, too many deaths in the family, disappointments,

too many dreams deferred, hearts broken. For some people, they

found true love, got engaged, and finally got pregnant. In some cases,

another failed fertility process.

No matter what side of the spectrum you find yourself today,

don’t let tomorrow set on broken dreams, sad feelings and no vision.

Don’t let the year-end without a game plan. Make a wish, anything,

dare to think that what you desire might actually come true. Dream

DEAR DIARY, IT’S MONDAY AGAIN, DECEMBER 1ST

OH BOY COULD MONDAY BE ANY LESS PAINFUL

I woke up this morning, after a long 4 days off, thinking I should have had one more day off. I obviously had only slept 3 hours the whole night, so I was sleep deprived, and cranky, very cranky. My alarm blasted off at 0430 am, and I thought, who on earth set that alarm! Me of course. I work almost an hour’s drive from home, and ideally I should be at work by 0530am. An unholy hour to be awake at all if you ask me, but not to early to be saving lives. Of course I hardly make it by 5:30, but when I can, it is dark, and I can’t help thinking, most mortals are still asleep. I usually smile as I drive to work though, and during my drive, I meditate and I feel like I have God all to myself. Funny, cause I am usually cranky when that alarm goes off. The busy bee

This morning was even harder. Trying to work a regular job by day, and then apply myself to my passions and my own businesses after hours is a magic trick I marvel at, one which means no sleep as I know it. Puffy eyes here I come, sleep-walker now my name. This is something I am sure a lot of people know as well, people, who believe in a dream, who hold on to the hope that someday, their sweat will be all they need to maintain the standard of living they have become used to over the years, and even more

As I slapped my snooze button over and over, I started my mantra,

“At least I have a job, at least I have a good job, wake up wake up wake up”.

I drove to work, and the only thing that kept me perked up was the vision of the many things I will be accomplishing in the near future; that world where I am a published writer, an actress, a playwright, an employer, a Philanthropist, the world where my book is a movie, Oscar winners, hahaha, yep, all the good things.

Then I arrive at work. Still dark. Time to help save lives. Coffee time, stock up, it’s 6am. New mantra on my lips, “I love my job, I love my job I love my job”

And then when you least expect it, you really love your job, for out of the blue, you get a card from the Assistant Manager with your name on it, it’s not your birthday, you don’t remember anything special happening, you’re not exactly special, but for that moment, or one day, you were special enough to be remembered. I do love my job, and until dreams keep coming true, this made my Monday, December 1st, worthwhile

PEARL #81: PLAN YOUR LIFE

DEAR DIARY, IT’S NOVEMBER 1ST 2014

“FAILING TO PREPARE IS PREPARING TO FAIL…

I used to hear this from Dr Dawkins Derrol, senior Pastor and Pediatrician, Birmingham AL. At the time I was just a student in nursing school, working as a Medical Assistant in his Pediatric practice. I wondered, what did that mean? It wasn’t a stretch of the imagination really, it was simple. Dr Dawkins simply meant, you ought to plan what you want to do, and plan how you will execute it.

For me today, I see that so relevant in everything I do. I have seen how things turn out when I plan, and the outcome when I don’t plan. Now, not everything in life can be written down to the last detail, some things are best spontaneous. However, when it comes to important stuff, like the trajectory of your life, a plan better be in place.

The first day of November, 2014, makes me realize, I have exactly 2 months till the end of this year. So, I am taking stock of what my life has been so far, is there something I can wrap up? Next, start planning for next year. When the new year starts, I should already have an idea what I want my life to look like. Deciding to plan in January, is preparing to be a day late. I want January to start with me already running.

Today I spent time in Barnes & Noble bookstore, looking around for inspiration. The first book I saw walking in is one I have been wanting to read, The Alchemist, wow. Then I looked for the book one of my Coaches and Mentors said I should get, The Ten Day MBA, my eyes fell on Joel Osteen’s book, but I couldn’t possibly get all these in one day. The adrenaline though started to fill my blood, I wanted to remain in the bookstore.

I got a couple of journals, my The Alchemist, pens and paper. Tonight, I will plan the rest of my year and the beginning of a new one.

What about you? What are you planning for next week, next month, next year? Need paper, pen? Then get it, start thinking, all the best to you and me, may our dreams come true.
